The Play____________________________________________________________
Scene 1
King Ruben enters
Eva: Welcome back my lord, how was your trip to the woods?
Ruben: It was marvelous your grace, I shot down six wild boars!
Robin, Trinh, & Eva enters
Robin: You and your dangerous habit, you know the woods are no place for a King.
Eva: I try to tell him that too but he does not listen.
Ruben: Tell me, brother, who would dare to lay hands on me? Even the boars know their place.
Robin: Have you not heard about the mysterious killings in the wilderness, past the Northern borders?
Everyone sits down and eat
Ruben: Yes, I’ve heard, but it is not our problem until it has reached within our borders.
Robin: To be safe, I have already set up post across the borders.
Ruben: Well done brother. If I made any good decision in life, it was making you the chief advisor.
Robin: I’m flattered my lord, but I am just doing my job.
Ruben: Well, I’ve had a long day, we will talk more tomorrow.
Robin: Goodnight brother.
Robin, Trinh, Richard exits
Eva: So my lord, when are we going to have a son? It’s been too long
Ruben: Soon your grace, soon. I just hope what happened to Richard’s mother does not happen to you.
Eva: She was small and weak. I am too strong to die from giving birth. If the time comes and you still do not have a son, then the bastard, Richard, will have to take the throne.
Ruben: Just waiting for the right season.
Scene 2
Narrator: While Trinh and Robin are walking home
Robin: I have to take care of some business tonight, my lady; you shouldn’t wait up for me.
Trinh: What business do you have to take care of at this time?
Robin: I must speak to the night guards.
Trinh: Aye, be safe. My lord.
Scene 3
Narrator: Later that night, while the Kingdom was around asleep. Eva and Robin arrived at their rendezvous.
Robin: Hello my lady.
Eva: Don’t call me that!
Robin: Why? You act as if you want to be mine.
Eva: How so?
Robin: The way you sneak around the kingdom under the moonlight and risk your life to see me.
Eva: Don’t flatter yourself! Just because you make a good advisor to my husband, does not mean anything to me.
Robin: We will see about that after tonight.
Robin and Eva exits
Scene 4
Narrator: Troops arrive at Robin’s house
Robin enters
Robin: What is this madness going on so early on the morning?
Ruben: My wife’s sacred family pendant has been stolen from her room.
Trinh: And why would you suspect it to be in our sanctuary?
Ruben: I heard rumors in the castle, I refused to believe it at first but I had no other leads.
Trinh: Who dares to start such a rumor?
Ruben: I do not know
Trinh: This is absurd!
Robin: Just let him search, he won’t find a thing.
Guards comes towards Ruben with a box
Guard: My Lord, I think this belongs to you.
Ruben: Where did you find this?
Guard: In Richard’s room, sir.
Ruben: Arrest him and bring him to the court!
Guard: Aye sir.
Guard reenters with Richard
Richard: I have been set up! Someone planted that box in my room! I do not even know what sacred pendant you speak of.
Trinh: My son has obviously been set up!
Robin: This has to be some sort of misunderstanding. I did not raise a thief!
Ruben: There is nothing to argue about, the evidence is all there.
Ruben, guards, and Richard exits
Robin: What would the Queen’s pendant be doing in our home?
Trinh: I do not know, but you need to calm down. Justice will play its role.
Robin: Do not tell me to calm down, and what do you know about justice?
Robin exits
Scene 5
Narrator: At the King’s courtroom
Ruben: Why did you steal my lady’s pendant?
Richard: I told you already, I did not take it.
Robin enters
Ruben: Do not try to lie now, we have already found the evidence in your room.
Richard: I have been framed my lord, I would never steal from my own blood.
Ruben: Tell me little boy, why would someone want to frame this on you?
Richard: I do not know, I have been set up.
Ruben: Is that all you have to say? Do you have an alibi?
Richard: I was asleep from dusk to dawn.
Ruben: Stop feeding me white lies!
Richard: It is the truth!
Ruben: Enough said! Is there anything else you would like to say?
Richard: Father do something!
I, Ruben of the house Giraldo , lord of Alief, protector of the realm, Defender and sole ruler of the Kingdom of Hastings, sentence you to die.
Robin: You have to stop! He is your nephew and my only son, a Giraldo.
Ruben: He is a liar and a thief. He is clearly not a true Giraldo. This must be done here and now!
Ruben kills Richard
Robin: NO!
Silence
Scene 5
Robin: Ugh!
Eva: Such a shame, he was so young.
Robin: Shut up whore!
Eva: That is no way to talk your Queen.
Robin: We have a fool as a King. He never does anything but drink beer, sleep with whores, and short boars.
Eva: Maybe you should be King; too bad you are the younger brother.
Robin: Maybe I should.
Eva: I have a plan, are you willing to hear it?
Robin: Shoot.
Eva: Have you heard of something called the Tears of Lys?
Robin: No, what is that?
Eva: It’s a clear, odorless, tasteless, and virtually, undetectable poison. It looks like water and dilutes easily in any fluid.
Robin: What do you plan to do with it?
Eva: Don’t you want to avenge your son, to become King?
Robin: Why are you helping me?
Eva: Lets just say I feel the same about Ruben as you do.
Robin: Why are you helping me?
Eva: That’s where I need your help. I need you to meet up with an old friend of mind, who has an endless supply of this toxin at Khal City.
Robin: Okay. I will ride out tonight.
Eva: Good. There is a hidden hole in the biggest apple tree. I want you to place the poison there. I will do the rest.
Robin and Eva exits
Scene 7
Narrator: At the castle’s courtyard
Trinh: Hello, your grace, Do you happen to know where my husband is?
Eva: No, why do you ask?
Trinh: He did not come home last night after what happened to Richard.
Eva: I do not know where he has gone. He is probably agonized by Richard’s death. You show no sign of grief, are you rejoiced by the Richard’s death?
Trinh: That is evil! Even though he is not my blood, I still love him just as much. Anyone who is rejoiced by a kid’s death has to be cruel and heartless.
Eva: I apologize for my misjudgment. Sorry I could not help you. I have somewhere to be now.
Eva and Trinh exit
Scene 8
Narrator: The next afternoon at Robin’s house
Robin enters
Trinh: Where have you gone to all night my lord? I was so worried.
Robin: I was taking my anger out in the woods. Sorry for making you worried.
Trinh: I thought you said it was dangerous out there.
Robin: I know, I was in the heat of the moment. I am tired I need to get some rest now.
Robin exits
Scene 9
Narrator: Troops arrive at Robin’s house.
Troops: My lord, the king has perished!
Robin: How did this happen?
Troops: We believe he caught a stomach virus.
Robin: Where is he at right now?
Troops: In his bedroom.
Robin: Take me there now.
Robin and troops exit
Scene 10
Robin: Oh my dear brother! You shall rest in peace. Your kingship will never be forgotten.
Eva: With the power hereby vested upon me by the crown, Robin house of Giraldo, I pronounce you lord of Alief and protector of the realm.
Robin: I am honored to take the noble power of the crown. Troops, bring my grace unto my court.
Troops exit
Scene 11
Narrator: Guard enters the court.
Guard: My lord, your lady has been found dead in her room. The cause of death seems to be same as the king.
Robin: What?
Robin exits
Scene 12
Narrator: Robin enters the Queen’s garden
Robin: Why did you poison my lady? She did not deserve to die!
Eva: Do you recognize this?
Robin: That is a ruby from Trinh’s necklace.
Eva: I found it in the pendant box after it was retrieved from Richard.
Robin: What are you trying to prove?
Eva: Richard was set up by Trinh. She deserved to die.
Robin: If you knew that Trinh planted the box in my son’s room, why did you not tell Richard at the court?
Eva: Is this not what you wanted? Now we can be together. No more sneaking around the kingdom.
Robin: You fool! What we had was not real. It was nothing more than a game.
Eva: How can you say such a thing? The way you made love to me was so passionate, how can you say it was not real?
Robin: It was lust, not love.
Trinh enters and stabs Eva
Eva: Oh my god, how could you be alive?
Trinh: Your tricks are too easy to fool me.
Robin: I thought you were dead! How did you survive the poison?
Trinh: After Richard’s death I was worried so I went looking for you in the woods. There I heard everything you two planned. This morning I heard strange noise in our kitchen. Paranoid, I refused to drink or eat anything. I faked my death when the guards came to get me.
Robin: Did you hear anything we said just now also?
Trinh: Yes I did. How can you sleep with her? She looks like centaur. And how could you go behind my back like that?
Robin: How could you set up my son like that?
Trinh: I hate the way you look at him; you love him more than you love me. You always refused to give me a son so I had to act.
Robin: You whores are all the same! Fools! Look what you have done. Four people are now dead because of you.
Trinh: Four? It was only three.
Robin: You forgot about me.
Robin stabs himself
Trinh: My lord! My king! How could you do this to yourself?
Robin: I would rather die than live with the devil.
Trinh: No! What have I done?
Narrator: Agonized by the death of her husband, Trinh drinks the Tear of Lys and lays on her deathbed.
